Be aware that this is on private property and if you choose to visit you should be respectful and leave everything as you find it (obviously, by the looks of the place, plenty of vandals don't like to follow that advice). The building is in bad shape, so also be careful.
Brooklyn Water Works, a.k.a. The Milburn Pumping Station turned out to be one of the most extraordinary and beautiful industrial structures ever built on Long Island. Frank Freeman, a Brooklynite and a master of Romanesque revival architecture, was commissioned to design the structure.

Work began in 1890 and was nearly complete by the next year. The last time it was used to pump water was in 1966.
