As of 2011, this wonderful old building has been torn down. This was on private property and I used to warn about being careful if you visit... but sadly, it is no longer there.
Brooklyn Water Works, a.k.a. The Milburn Pumping Station turned out to be one of the most extraordinary and beautiful industrial structures ever built on Long Island. Frank Freeman, a Brooklynite and a master of Romanesque revival architecture, was commissioned to design the structure. Work began in 1890 and was nearly complete by the next year. The last time it was used to pump water was in 1966.
